GEORGIA CARS - These first few cars represent the makes and models Rosco drove during the famous first Georgia episodes. The cars were very individual and the "Hazzard Sheriff's Department" was portrayed as being larger than it was in future California shot episodes. Two of the original patrol cars used in Georgia are still in existence - with the famous "Patrol 2" still running with its original motor. As used in the rest of the series - the Aerodynic Light Bar was seen in the original episodes.

The paint code for the original two cars is:

PPG Paint Code
MAE90687-A
(Glacier White) AE

EARLY CALIFORNIA EPISODES - Warner Brothers was able to get a heck of a deal on some used AMC Matadors for use as Hazzard Patrol Cars. The stunt drivers absolutely hated working with the Matadors due to poor handling, the lack of power steering and reliability. They were quickly crashed and used up - on purpose. The Matador's also had another dangerous problem. During hard driving the catalytic converters got really hot and when the car was parked in the brush it would start fires. To fix that the cars' exhausts were cut off before the catalytic converter, making them REALLY loud.

The Plymouth Satellite was another odd-ball and rarely seen Hazzard Unit. From the front fenders back it was very similar to the Furys and Monacos that would come to be known as The Hazzard Patrol Car.

LATER CALIFORNIA EPISODES - Most fans recognize Rosco's Patrol car as a double stack headlight Monaco or Fury. This car easily became the most recognizable Rosco Police car. Toy packaging and model cars were often based on this model of police car. Warner Brothers obtained these cars from actual police departments in California. MINIATURES: One Rosco car many overlook is the miniature. These were used late in the series and were all built by model-maker Mr. Jack Sessums who also built the miniature General Lees used in the series. Jack built miniature vehicles for almost all of the 80s action television shows including Knight Rider and Airwolf. He passed away in 2005 after a battle with cancer - but his work will be seen and enjoyed by many for years to come.
